Slacken the big spring tensioning nut off as far as it will go till the spring rattles then the top seating ring should have a slot in it which will come past the piston rod and allow it to be removed then the spring comes upwards to remove. (If it is the same as most other dampers)

thanks but

the top platform has no cutout to slide it over the damper piston

there is a small spring ring sitting in a groove i think has to be flipped out then the spring seat slides over the groove - BUT it wont go over it - it seems too tight to slide off

There is. Diagram of the shock on the Nitron web site.
Does the bottom adjuster come all the way off? If so the spring will come off the bottom

the bottom platform wont unthread off the body that end - needs to come off past the adjuster end

It looks like the top seat is threaded.

The top seat won't be threaded. It will almost certainly have a circlip holding it in place. Slack off spring seat and lock ring, compress spring if necessary and look for gap between collet and central part. Push the two apart and lever out circlip.

Watch yer fingers/other bits

Cheers,
Mike

cheers guys - i think the little spring groove is lipped slightly stopping the spring seat sliding off the end - just doesnt feel right to push it over - iv put them back on for the moment so will have another look at it later on.

i need longer springs slightly to remove preload
