can someone tell me the best way to check if a diff is lsd, its off a sierra and its not in a car at the minute

take the back off, take a picture and post it up here - we can then tell you

Assuming you have just a diff on its own, if it's not an LSD it will be effortless to turn both output flanges the opposite way by hand. If it's an LSD it will be pretty difficult to do that. Or take the back off, take a photo and post it here.

IIRC you just turn one flange, on an LSD the opposite flange will turn in the same direction, if its a non LSD the opposite flange will turn the opposite way.

Turn the input flange and hold one of the output flanges, it will be almost imposible to turn if it's lsd
