Hello guys i'm trying to work out where the red spring in this photo goes, on a set of 1.8 cvh drums. brain plaudits for the correct answer...
AS per diagram really. The short hook end hooks into the same hole as where you have the Yellow spring, but from above and the long hook end hooks
into the shoe in the hole just above where you have the self adjuster already located in the left hand shoe (not the one clearly vuisible in the photo
but the one closer to the brake friction material that is in the shadow, so that the spring runs virtually parrallel with the self adjuster plate).
If that all makes sense.
Oh and to make fitting the spring easier, you will have to de-adjust the self adjuster cam worm.

Hi
as an ex-ford tech, we were informed of a slight modification of the installation of this spring via the oasis thecnical bullitins system.
(this was especially with non factory fitted shoes)
as listed above but what the bullitin showed was to install the spring UNDERNEATH the adjuster with the springs long leg through the steel part
marked as (M) and the short leg of the spring located on the hole in the shoe to the very left of the picture, we were told the reasoning was that it
held averything in a more equal tension "and less chance of it (the spring) tearing the dust seal on the slave cylinder"

Hi ya, i have fitted many off these in my time
Not sure how to add pic on here but i have put it in my photos archive (bottom one titled drum)

Trust my picture in my post, im a Doctor.
It will not afect the auto adjuster as it is designed to go there.

No those are not bolts,: they are the annoying retainers you mention. They just happen to have a hex shape which probably makes them easier to hold in
a pair of flat-nose pliers.

To change spring position would mean replacing the spring, the spring in the picture is designed to go where i have mentioned.
Do you have a linky for the technical bullitin.
Any way regardless of the spring i have far more imprtant issues to think about than to get in to a debate about a spring.
Mrwibble has asked a question and i have answered it 100% correct without going around the houses which i beleive this forum is all about or shall i
say thought it was for.
