i wanted to know what people are running for what specs, i dont have finished engine figures to give you but will be between 200-300bhp unsure on torque but its a 1600 car engine

Whereabouts near Leeds are you?

MakeEverything - 16/9/10 at 07:06 PM

Depends what youre looking for.

Driveability?
Accelleration?
Crusing / Top Speed?
What diff you have?

Very much down to personal taste, and the intended use of the car.

Would thoroughly recommend 13" diameter.
Front width 185 to 205
I would think with 300bhp you will light up the rears whatever the width

Al

Would have typed the same as Al for power up to 200, maybe just over.

I suppose 245's for 250bhp and slicks for 300bhp

13" rims, then the rest is trial and error I'm afraid!

200 to 300bhp out of a 1600??????

matt_gsxr - 16/9/10 at 09:55 PM

14inch yoko a021r 185's
13inch acb10's 185's on the track
But I don't have a bit less than your 200bhp.

That is some cross flow if you are making 200-300bhp.

i have two sets of wheels for the car both 6x14" with 185 tyres on there, yoko 21r for track and a set of road tyres too

i have 185 yoko 21r at the moment on a set of 14" wheels,

it used to have 175bhp and was fine wouldnt spin the wheels untill around 7k in first but i will be having a bit more power and more torque now might aswell see how it goes to start with

its no crossflow its a 1600 zetec se engine

thanks for that useful input

My 1600 was outputting 270BHP and that was built to produce more but I never bothered to up the limiter (belt driven Rotrex supercharger).

More than enough power for mainly road use. I was on 14" wheels with 185 section tyres. Road tyres you did have to use your right foot to modulate the power delivery in lower gears. Semi slicks when warm were hadly ever overwhelmed but the torque delivery from a Rotrex increases almost linear with revs.

Wheel and tyre size will have less effect than geometry, damping and weight over the wheels from what I've read.

My RX7 has relatively skinny 16" 225 tyres and 350 lbs ft from as low as 2000RPM but the 500-600 kgs (my Striker was 550kgs total) over the rear wheels helps a lot with traction. If I was obsessed with drag racing like the yanks with similar conversions to mine I would probably be on 18s with street drag tyres up to 295 width.

275 kumho v70 on the back of mine and still spins in first a bit

thanks alot for that, ill stick with the 185 on 14" wheel i have i have both road and track wheels see how it goes to start with, i have been looking at runnings some 13x8 or 9 some wider rear tyres
