I bought a fully built locost and now need to identify the various bits. Unfortuanately the previous owner wasn't the builder and cant really
help much.
I know the rear axle is from a escort, but how do establish what ratio it is (short of stripping it and counting the teeth)
TIA
Put a chalk mark on a wheel. Turn the prop and count the rotations.

Youll need both wheels off the ground or you will get half the number of prop rotations.
jacking only one wheel makes it easier to be more accurate, because the wheel will turn more for each turn of the prop. If you're doing it alone,
just put one wheel up, spin the valve to the bottom, then take the tranny cover off and turn the prop one full turn. easy! or even better, turn it
twice, if i've worked it out right a 4.0 diff (doesnt exist but good for an example) will leave the valve back in the same place.

Thanks!!
Currently the car is on 4 axle stands while I sort out a couple of other issues so will be spinning both wheels.
To be more accurate I'll just let the back wheels do 5 turns instead of 1 and work it back from that.
