welding to sierra uprights?????
tilly819 - 3/10/10 at 10:14 AM

hi all

i am in the process of designing some new suspension geometry and was just wondering rather than fully manufacturing new front uprights weather it is safe to weld to excising sierra ones. they are obviously cast which gives me some doubt but they look to be steel rather than iron.

cheers tilly

for the amount of stress on the uprights i wouldnt risk welding anything that is cast, whether it is cast steel or iron. Even less so if it was iron

I'm pretty sure they're forged not cast, and therefore you're fine welding to them....

cool cool if they are forged then its play time could just do with some clarification on that to make sure

I am pretty sure there cast so you can't weld to them.
What are you trying to attach?

Welded modifications on uprights may well fail MOT /IVA etc

I have seen Cortina uprights cut and welded but that was done by an absolute professional. If you have to ask what they are made of, you shouldnt be attempting to modify them. Jusy buy what the professionals have already made. Its safer that way.
