follwing on from recent thread where you knowledgable lot helped out, ive another query for you
its seems most 7types use a largely similar design IRS rear upright, generally to take sierra bearing carriers. Does anyone do a vesrion in alloy?
ive seen the Westfield cast items, but as im going to need to modify them (shock operation and upper pickup point) i think its best if i find a
fabricated version ideally.
Any suggestions Chaps?
or the lightest steel version at a push
You can get alloy bearing carriers from the grassracers but as far as I know all the fabricated uprights are steel.
Not sure if alloy is suitable as a material here as fabricated alloy tends to fatigue - cnc from solid would be OK but cost?

Loads of options
Just all really expensive!
Matt
thanks for the links but they are all cast or billet, was looking for a fabricated and welded version similar to the locost/haynes designs. Price wise
none are cheap either, higher echelons of motorsport rather than my clubbie level im afraid
Take the point re fatigue though, maybe will have to go with steel with the ally carriers.
anyone got a weight for a typical locost style rear upright without cast bearing carrier?

Make some from simple billet as per these Aussie racers.
Their basic design is used on both front and rear.
I'm sure you could adapt the design to Suit Sierra bearings and hubs.

If going fabricated, definitely needs to be steel not ally.
You can fabricate a very light steel carrier.
