
Hi folks, I have just bought a set of calipers, pads and discs off eBay from a Sierra 2.3 Ghia (IIRC), which are vented 240mm discs.
However i married them upto my Sierra front hubs tonight to find that the discs contact the calipers on the side closest to the bodywork?!
I was wondering if perhaps some Sierra hubs are slightly different or more likely there are different offsets of 240mm vented brake discs?

I think there are 2 different sizes sure Ive heard the Cosworth ones are a different size
Is that the hubs or discs your talking about?

2wd sierra cossies have diferent hubs - they are bigger and the calipers mount on with two M12's that are threaded in the hub, there are ment to
fit the massive iron 4 pot calipers
(all the others have two M10's that are threaded in the caliper carrier)
4x4 and granada hubs are also different these suit there own versions of 260mm discs (I beleve the scorpio hubs are different again)
as you say the std. sierra discs are 240mm dia. vented - if these don't fit your hubs it could be that you don't have the normal sierra 2wd
hubs....
Have you got any pics ? it would help clear up alot of things very quickly....
or since your just up the road I could bring some of my bits round for you to try...

Is hard to explain but the calipers bolt onto hubs fine, the caliper carrier is threaded and the hubs are not. The discs fit onto my hubs fine aswell
however the rear face is about 1-2mm too close to the upright, so when i try and fit the caliper and disc together the disc catches on the inside of
the carrier.
A quick solution would be to fit a small spacer betwen the hub face and the disc to bring it out 1-2mm but want to try and avoid this, perhaps an
escort disc would be the same diameter and thickness but have a higher offset?

1 or 2mm doesn't sound like enough for it to be the wrong disc
has the hub / caliper carrier been modified or damaged in any way ?
yours should look something like this ( but ignore 5mm spacers - they are to use a different disc)

Yeah my calipers are exactly like that, however I managed to check the size of spacer I would need to bring the discs further away from the hub face
and they are 5mm, so if you need to space your calipers 5mm further out to fit your new sized discs, what type of discs are they as they, in theory,
should fit onto mine without me needing spacers? If that makes sense lol
those are for granada discs, which are 5 stud ones and 260mm diamiter so not much good of you
I'll have a look later to see if there are any other discs that size/offset

took a while but I've found my list of disc sizes (based on EBC and brembo if I remember right)
the 4x108 dics with the same offset as the granada discs are sierra 4x4's (not cossie) and the mk1 focus RS
the 4x4 ones are all 260mm dia
and the focus ones are 324mm dia with a thicker disc (28mm instead of 24mm)
is that a pic of your front hub in your archive ? - if so what that thing in the middle of the back ??

Yeah I had a look aswell and found that all of the 240mm discs are the same height (58.9mm IIRC) so think I might try 260mm discs and see if the fit
behind my Compo ML's or try some Escort 240mm discs which are 15mm thinner meaning I will need to space the caliper slightly which is no big
deal.
I have no idea what the things are on the hubs, I thought all RWD sierras had them as no shafts needed to go through them?! Oh well...

yeah but the don't look like that, they could be converted 4x4 ones (although I've never heard of anyone bothering)

btw I've got a pair of rusty calipers for 260mm discs, you could have/borrow them to try
I can go one better and bring a hub round if you've got a spare hour or so at the weekend
Problem is that the car is on an Island called Bute on the West coast lol, but if you wouldnt mind I could perhaps borrow the hubs and perhaps the
260mm discs to trial fit to see the difference? In exchange for some beer tokens? 
In that case I'll get mesuring and find some more pics
the old calipers are spare if you want them, but the rest is just about to go on the car (sorry)
i'm going to wager that you have a nut on the outside face of the hub and you in fact have 4x4 hubs with the cv joint body turned off the stub
axle.
you should have a big nut under a tin cover where that silver flange is for 2WD uprights
