GREENSTUFF BRAKE PADS review
hi guys im doing a mk1 golf gti karmann cabrio with a 1.8kr 16v with twin 45s over the winter for the mrs i have upgraded the calipers and discs to Cavalier-CALIBRA Turbo ,284mm grooved drilled vented Discs and calipers. (i have also upgrading the servo and 22.2 mm master cylinder)
i have new std pads but i was wanting to know if its worth spending £45 on GREENSTUFF BRAKE PADS.

Sorry, no idea on the pads as not used them.

Out of interest, why Vauxhall brake parts rather than something from the VAG range? Need to do something similar myself with my MK2 GL and so interested in alternatives.

only way to really know is to try it.

I didn't really like the greenstuff pads on my indy compared with standard. Mintex 1144 were much better

ERrr having had them on an old car I wouldn't bother. No better than std pads really.
Worth paying out for decent pads though, I quite fancy a set of mintex 1144's or ferrodo DS2500, both of which ARE good and much better.
Cheap "white box" pads are generally pants from my experiences. Always branded stuff for me.

I had them on an XR4x4, absolutely superb in my opinion. No fade even when driven hard. Could be better on heavier cars than light, but for me they were excellent.

The Vauxhall conversion is a popular upgrade in the VAG world;
VX conversion

Re the Green stuff pads, I would also recomend the 1144's. Excellent from cold but also never faded on my kit on the track.

The BMW Mini guys on another forum I frequent recommend the Yellowstuff pads. It seems that the Green are ok on lighter kit cars but start to fade on tin tops. The yellows seem to take more punishment.

tried greens on the old tin-top (pug 106, 760kg with 45hp) and they wern't much better than bog standard ferodo ones IMHO (I had smoke pouring off them in 10min once)
Running ordinary mintex ones just now and they are surprisingly good for £25 pads

I've got a set of green pads sitting there for the dax but I don't think I'll get another set once they are done
I think I'll try a set of M1114's or DS2500's instead

I found them fairly good in the tintop but quite scary in the toy car - might be the fact that the tintop had a servo and they need a bit of oomph to bite.

Greenstuff went on fire in my car. Pants in my specific experience.

Another vote for Mintex 1144. V helpful people and great service. Solved problem and stopped on a sixpence - again and again. G/S would only do 3 or 4 corners before fading and at the end of the lap were pouring smoke.

I would not recommend Green Stuff to anyone......

Mintex1144's or ds2500 every time.....both are brilliant, with very little, if
anything, to choose between them.....

My Saab Turbo had greenstuff a while ago and I liked them, plenty of feel and stop when you hit them.



Im now on redstuff and hate them - wooden with no feel at all. And really need swapping for road/hack use...



Ive been recomended Mintex 1144 for my little Fiat, so thats what its getting.


Plenty of feel and powerful when needed.

I went from Greenstuff's to the Mintex ones...
Unfortunately I also changed the whole breaking system to different callipers and master cyl at the same time
(so would be unfair for me to compare back to back)

All I know is the things I did as a whole were totally worth it and breaking effort has been much reduced

I only drive on the road in a grandad like manner so cannot comment on how they behave under pressure
