my front brake discs have a brake area larger than my pads (wilwood) are.

there are 3 options, what is the best one?

1) mount caliper +pads toward the outer edge , inner edge won't WEAR
?best braking effort?

2) caliper+pads central on the disc; inner and outer edges won't WEAR

3) mount caliper+pads toward the inner edge , outer edge won't WEAR

At least 2 mm in from the outer rim, you want it right on the rim because the corners get corroded from 2 directions so gradually become rounded.

Set to centre as bt says in fact the peugeot 407 is this way pads smaller than the disc

Well there you are - 3 options and 3 different opinions
for what it's worth my reasons are simply for braking efficiency. I'm assuming you will be using the car infrequently and will replace or upgrade the discs long before they corrode.
I'm not sure what the Pug 307 has in common with a locost but I guess their reasons are more to do with service life than performance.
As a matter of interest are you any further forward?

as v8kid and BT said, set them as far out as you can. since it's not a fit and forget type of install, compromise and fit them 1mm in from the edge. pads tend to crumble a bit on the edges so you'll lose that area regardless of whether your discs actually corrode

certainly don't fit them in the centre of the swept area though. that's throwing away free performance.

Further out the better. Will give you (marginally) better braking performance as you'll use less effort
