just got some new wheels for my locost, they're 15 inch zetcec s wheels i was expecting for the rears to catch but the didnt infact there is pleanty of clearance i then checked the front/rear track and found that the fronts are about 3 inch closer together, is this normal? or has my car prehaps got a wider rear axel than book, what would be the best fix for this, or is it even a problem would the car handle funny? if i spaced out the fronts would this spoil the handling?

If the car has a sierra or capri rear end then the rear track will be wider, lots of people run like this without issue me included for a while.

I made some longer bones to bring the wheels in line and it does improve handling, you can buy wide track front kits if it worries you.

i thought it was odd i think ill get the 19mm spacers i was expecting to have to get anyway on the front and that will half the difference for now as the offset is correct and leave the back ones without, would it be easier to get a new escort rear axel than the widen the front, or would widening the front give the best handling? cheers ed

oh i forgot to say its a live rear diff did the sierra come with a live diff i thought they were all irs?

I think the P100 Sierra had a live axle, not 100% sure though.

BTW, mine is wider at the rear than the front, I have 20mm spacers to give me the clearance from the body. Made longer front WBs to compensate but screwed up on the maths, so even with 10mm spacers the front is narrower than the rear.

ive just seen these on ebay would they mess the geometry up if i put them on the front ive measuered it and the rears are 80mm wider so if i used these the difference would only be 16mm

Simply spacing out the front wheels is not the way to remedy too narrow a track. The distance of the wheel's centreline from the axis between the top and bottom ball joint will increased and you will find yourself with some very unpleasant side effects.

i thought it might not be the right way for doing it but didnt know why cheers for pointing it out, at the end of the day i should prob just get the car on the track before i do anything anyway, if it handles well ill just leave it alone it doesnt look funny or anything just over thinking lol!!
