My car has been on the road for a few years now ,but i'm not quite happy with the feel of the brake pedal ( Escort mk1 Master cyl).

Is it possible to have trapped air in the hydraulic brake light switch, which is in my rear brake line...............

Does it matter which way it is mounted?

And why cant i do a post without having to edit it?

Apparently yes it is possible to trap air in the switch and no it makes no difference which way it is mounted. Rumour has it that if you crack of the nut and press brakes until fluid leaks out then tighten the nut up this will get rid of the air. Failing that turn it through 90deg and bleed it in much the same way... allegedly!

Loosening and pumping the brake worked for me, just make sure you catch any brake fluid that leeks out, it works really well as paint stripper.

If you suspect there is air trapped at any point the technique is to loosen the union and get an assistant to give a single gentle pump of the brake (good idea to cover the union with a cloth to catch the fluid spray) -- the important bit is he holds the pedal to the floor until you tighten it. Only then bring the pedal up slowly, re-apply pressure and check for leaks
