help with vivaro rear pads please!

im just trying to wind back the pistons on my rear callipers, but it doesnt seem to be going back! Can anyone tell me how long its meant to take/how many times it needs to turn? Cos at the rate im going, i'll be here all night!

Ive just done a Vauxhall Astra , and used my universal tool to wind them back. Both screwed back - clockwise.


However the newer ones are handed, dont ask me which way per each side.

it did cross my mind that i might be doing it the wrong way! Its an 04 plate. I'll try backwards for a bit!

Undone the bleed screw and clamped the hose?

Should push back easily with the bleed nipple undone a turn or 2

the hand brake is on the same piston and i think this complicates it a bit.

However, ive managed (nearly, im about 2mm off).

I put it back on the hub, undid one slider to get to the piston past the disc, then used long nose pliers with a spanner head stuck in the handle to hold them open the right amount, and used the spanner as a lever (i was developing w4nkers cramp ).

Slacken back the handbrake cable adjuster

The pistons need to be pushed back (sometimes quite hard) as you turn them, otherwise they often just don't move. A proper caliper wind back tool is a worthwhile investment.

As above, I had to make myself one from threaded rod, some plate and some nuts to do swmbo's TT. I'd tried all sorts with big circlip pliers prior to that and nothing worked, no matter how hard I leant on it.

Having used a proper tool, I now realise how rough my hash up was, though it did the job. For £20, just go buy the windback tool

think that was my problem, i was originally using a monkey wrench which turned it ok but didnt push at all. With the long nose pliers you need to push to keep them in the holes!
