Im after buying a new lower ratio rack for my Indy-blade and just wondered how I can find out which one I have ie. Sierra, Escort ect...
I've been looking at the quick racks on rally design website and obviously don't just wanna go flying into a purchase which could not
fit..
TIA Alan
It's likely to be a Sierra rack but post a picture and we'll give you a definitive answer.

if the car is an MK Indy it will have a modified sierra rack on it. Theses racks are cut shortened and sleeved so an off the shelf on isnt a direct fit. If I am correct you would have to strip the quick rack cut down the central part and retap the end also remove the gearing and fit all into the cut down rack. Alternatively buy one and send it of to have it shortened
Description
Heres the pic.. yeah u can see it been shortened..
My issue isnt actually the ratio with the current rack.. its play in the system..
The rods that connect the rack to the rod ends are moving up and down when u jiggle the steeering wheel..Hence im loosing that motion in the actual
steering and its not very tight.. Very sloppy actually
TIA Alan
Your rack should look like this if it's a Sierra rack. Only shorter......
Phil
A common problem with the Sierra rack is the pinion working loose. If you remove the yellow plastic cover, you should be able to tighten the pinion
retaining nut sufficiently to remove the excessive play.
Phil
Ok. thanks for ur help.. will I need to remove the rack to do this ??
Thanks Alan
No, you'll need to remove the steering column that connects to the pinion though, to enable the plastic cap to be removed to give you access to
the pinion retaining nut.
Phil
I tightened the slipper a little as well this is a rack off though and a pitta to do as the unit breaks apart easily
