Where to get Custom De Dion?
TimC - 14/5/11 at 04:16 AM

I am fed up of searching on this one (found some comments but nothing solid.)

Who could manufacture and supply an original book-width De Dion with custom bracketry? GTS is not an option I will entertain!

Rally Design do a 4 link bracket for a live axle that would be easy to modify to fit the DeDion, cut off the brackets that come on a standard DeDion and tack weld on the new brackets, get a codex welder to finish off.

The brackets aren't really the issue. Where are you buying a standard De Dion from?

Try Martin Keenan @ MK Engineering. he used to make them. If you want to build your own check out Rorty designs for free plans. If you cant find them on his site PM your email as i have a copy i can send.

If you can weld, and can find one cheap, you could look at using/altering a Caterham De-don set up. I don't know how they compare to book width as mine's going in my Sprite, but I need to narrow it slightly to fit and will just be cutting, sleeving and welding it back together again. Their main tube is straight with plates/ears welded for the sierra hubs to bolt to. I can take some pics if you'd like.

It might not be the cheapest option, but having Caterham based suspension may help come re-sale time. And all the bushes/brackets and so on are available and will be for many years to come.

Cheers for the replies (and U2Us.) I've actually ruled it out today as I don't think there's enough room in the chassis. Never mind - no need for custom driveshafts etc now.
