Hi, I've been using this site for information for a while now and the time has finally come that I really need some information that I just
can't get hold of just by searching on the web.
I'm trying to find out if you can use Fiesta drive-shafts with Sierra bearing carriers? I'm finding it difficult to get specific details of
drive shaft dimensions, flanges etc, but I want to make a simple rear upright and bolt on a Sierra bearing carrier. However, I want to use a Fiesta
differential and drive-shafts. Is this possible?

can you use the fiesta front hubs on the rear in way they are on a sylva riot?

Yes, I really need the bearing/driveshaft diameters! I believe the bearings are a standard size of inside diameter 105mm and outside diameter of
130mm. Is this correct? Seems a little big to me. I'm getting my figures from Tony Pashely's book but they aren't very clear.

What you could do is measure the outer diameter of the fiesta shaft, to see if it matches the inner diameter of the sierra bearing, if it does test
fit with all bolted up, if tight your might be good to go, if the shaft still wallops about after tightening up the nut you might needs a suitable
spacer turned up on a lathe.
And if the sierra bearing/hub, fiesta shaft combo is not the same you could install a custom set of bearings in the hub, to do this you need to find
a local bearing factors, and supply them with the O/D of the bearing taken from the hub, then give them the inner Dia (of the bearing you want, this
measurement is taken from the O/D of the fiesta shaft) this will provide a custom bearing(s) set to suit your application.

you would also need to ensure they are the same spline

whilst not what you're exactly after, I feel it is relevant.
I was using an Mx5 upright at the rear of my car, however I was not really happy with the Mx5 rear outer CV joint. Its a weak link and can not be
easily changed.
I discovered I could slightly modify a sierra xr 4x4 outer stub axle and hub to fit in the Mx5 bearings. All that was required was machining about
1.5mm from the hub length and a 3mm spacer mahcined for the shaft.
I now have a stronger CV joint which can be changed easily and upgraded if needed.
This is a pic of a rear Mx5 upright, xr4x4 stub axle and hub, and a volvo to xr4x4 driveshaft.

Thanks for your help gentlemen. I like the idea of swapping the bearings out for the correct ones - seems to be the simplest solution.

Austin Man, forgive my ignorance but what do you mean when you say 'you would also need to ensure they are the same spline?'
