tie rod ends

Stupid question alert,

I cannot seem to tighten the nut on the tie rod ends. the input shaft keeps spinning with the nut. Should it be like that? How do u tighten it

frip the shaft as you call it with stilsons. the steering arm is on a ball socket so will spin in some instances especially if the r is paint or rust present

If on the other hand you mean the nut on the taper pin, clean the pin and hole to take any grease/oil off and push it home into the tapered hole while you tighten.

If you have other problems I would suggest the Robin Hood Owners Club forum might be the place to go.

Sometimes there is a hexagonal hole in the end for an allen key, if yours doesn't have one then tap it onto the taper with a mallet and that should hold it tight enough to tighten the nut.

If you are really having trouble then take off the nyloc nut and use a standard nut to tighten the ball joint onto the taper, then replace the standard nut with the nyloc.

The tie rod is for the upper wishbone, in fits into a mushroom inserts so I cant grip it with a stilson.

There maybe damage to the thread which is gripping the nut, it often happens when people use a hammer to release ball joints on road cars.
