I am at the stage where I will soon need to replace the A021s on the back of my car, the tyres fitted are 185/60/13 but this size is quite expensive.The fronts still have a good bit of tread on them and I can get 185/70/13 a lot cheaper as they are a control tyre for stock rods, would I upset the handling by putting them on the back and keeping the 60s on the front? or I could fit A539s as used in the Locost race series which seem ok on the 1300 cars but may not put the power down with a 2 litre.

From what I can find, 70 profile tyres give less choice and few speed rated over T 118mph.

Higher profile tyres generally give better longitudinal traction so if braking or accelleration is an issue they would be a consideration. However they are heavier

They will also raise the effective gearing, so it will throw your speedometer reading out (make it read lower for the same speed).

Thats not a problem as my car was originally set up with 70 series and speedo was accurate, I then changed to 60 profile Yoko Ao21s so speedo presently over reads and gearing is a bit low in first.I found the same tyres are available in 70 profile for about half the price of the 60 profile from George Polley and so want to go back to 70 profile but don't want to have to change all 4 at once as the fronts still have a few miles left in them but just wondered if it would effect the handling much.
Thinking about it it should be ok as the rolling dia is not much different to if I fitted 205/60s on the back.

I pass pollysport from time to time I will have to see what he has got. Ive got plenty of tyres but non H rated or better.

the higher the profile , the longer the final axle ratio.

which means: with 70ies you will loose acceleration.
