Is the swap to the landrover 4.1 diff a straightforward one from the sierra 3.62 i have in at the moment and if so whice one do i want?
are you on about a freelander diff? if so they are 3.21:1
I have read many times about people using the freelander 4.1 diff but didnt know if it just bolted in and you use the sierra drive shafts
the freelander 1 diff will require different drive shaft and prop lengthening. The ratio is 3.21.:1 not 4:1, they only made one ration

Maybe there is an aftermarket 4.1 freelander crown wheel and pinion set, but in standard form landrover only ever supplied a 3.21 in the freelander 1.
Scoop
Why not just change the ratio of you Sierra diff, which would be a lot less work?
I have a 3.92 7" open Sierra diff you may be interested in. It's in excellent condition, just removed it from my Fury to fit a 3.62.

newbie question whats the difference between 3.61 to a 4.1 anyway.

thanks , so for economic motorway driving, diffs in the low 3s are best?
depends what engine your running kev! some engines would be a waste of time with a diff ratio in the low 3's
ive got a 1600 xflow , seems to rev high when doing 70. 5 gears type 9
How many revs at 70?
the rev counter is a bit knackered it hovers between 3500 and 5500 back and forward,
