How Many Magnets for Prop Mounted Speed Sensor?
scootz - 26/8/11 at 02:04 PM

Is there a 'usual number' for prop mounted speed-sensor magnets?

Also, how important is their spacing?

Cheers!

My Acewell uses 1 magnet, but I think you can adjust it upto 4 if needed in the settings.

One on mine as well.

Seems to work fine.

Cheers guys... it's an Acewell sensor that I'm using for a VDO speedo, so I guess I'll start with one and see how I get on!

You will only need one, even on a driveshaft one will give accurate readings from about 2-3 MPH & the prop is going to be going 3 & a bit times as fast!

i started out with all 4 fitted to the prop, down to just one now, so top tips for making them stay put welcome. but apart from having to reset the speedo i can't tell the difference in the readout

I have got two, and they are fixed in place with a 'two - pack' type gunge which is, I suppose a sort of chemical metal like phelpsa mentioned - its called...... Unibond repair express power putty ....and I got it from B+Q at peel corner, but I think the holyoake ave branch is nearer you?
