im building a front engined r1 mini with a rwd conversion using mini front subframe in the rear.I am using mini front hubs allround.NO PROBLEM WITH BRAKES BUT ANY IDEAS WHAT I CAN USE FOR A HANDBRAKE?
Rover 214/216/220 rear calipers are what GTM used --- however I think it will be it will be a bit under braked on the rear, MGF MG TF calipers are
a safer bet
The MGF & MG Tf was basically 2 Metro subframes and a Metro centre section.

werent they based on the k series metro though?
what did the original twin engined mini use as a set up?are there any small propshaft handbrake set ups?
what about these?

There is a twin engined vauxhall mini which uses front hubs on both axles, this was MOT'd and it used the spot calipers mentioned welded to the
hub, it passed it's MOT so I assume all was well
About half way down it shows several photos of the handbrake install

Might be worth having a look at a GTM Coupe set up as they used 2 front subframes from a Mini , Haven't got around to looking at the brakes on mine yet. You might find a bit more help on the GTM owners forum?
Here's a thread doing exactly what you want.

Alternatively if you don't mind drums it's straightforward to fit swivel hubs from a front drum braked mini (though they are getting rare)
and modify the backplate from rear mini drums to fit. 4 holes to drill each side (though one is 40mm ish iirc).

thanks for that.when you say drums when i had a look at those they were very small on the driveshaft thickness unless im missing something or you know of anything different?
There were two sizes of drum cv joint, I suspect the smaller also had thinner driveshafts, maybe that's what you saw.
You can use Maxi CV joints and much thicker driveshafts on any mini if you can find them anywhere (iirc minispares has run out and can't get them
anymore)
