Hi all,
Since I changed the brake pads on the little plastic car this spring, the brakes have gotten a bit clunky, which is down to a bit of wear on the
slider pins (that are now inserted less deep in the caliper mount bracket, and hence more susceptible to clunking about a bit).
Having just taken the calipers off the car, it is pretty simple to see how to replace the top slider pin (it just falls out ;-)) as seen on the left
of the picture below but how to replace the bottom pin (on which the caliper hinges back if you want to change the pads, on the right in the piccy) is
beyond me. It screws into the caliper but there does not seem to be any flat surface to put a spanner onto. It also seems impossible to change the
bushes that receive the slider pins.
Who's got a clue? I'd rather just change the pins than the calipers outrught as there is nothing wrong with them and this is of course
locostbuilders....
Oh, this concerns standard (non-vented) Sierra front calipers like these:

Just had a look at the Haynes manual. It doesn't say anything about how to remove that pin.
On my (Teves) caliper i think there was a hex head which allowed the pins to be removed.
That's a Girling caliper (as opposed to a Teves unit) which was apparantly fitted to 1.3 & 1.6 models. that might help if you need to get a
replacement. You could try the Ford Sierra Owners Club forum.
ISTR generally on most other Girling calipers they have flats for an open ended spanner.
Yes the calipers you have there I believe where fitted to the lower CC models with solid discs. I would change to escort rs turbo/2.0 sierra calipers where parts are a lot easier to source. Failing that, take off the dust cover and there will be a flat on either side you can get a spanner on. Cant help on where to source the replacement sliders.
So they should be replaceable. I'll have another look tomorrow. Thanks!
not too sure about particular calipers but mine have
an allen key recess in the end to spin them out.
go to www.brakesint
They do brake fitting kits for about £12
slider. lube etc
