Afternoon all,

What would the affect of putting a 15 offset wheel on where a 38 offset was originally?

Also what offset does/did a Cortina use?

If the wheel width was the same the wheel would stick out 23mm further.

It might make your spring rates alittle softer due to more leverage, by how much I could'nt tell you of the top of my head.

Cortina should be 18~19mm, same as mk2 escort.

Since the offset is measured from the center line of the rim - wouldnt that mean the opposite ?
As in , the rim would move inwards by 23mm ?

I bought ET 35 offset wheels when I built my Fury (I knew nothing about wheels in those days.....) , and I needed 23mm spacers to get them to fit - I've since lengthened the front wishbones by 23mm and binned the spacers .

Live axle Furys look quite happy sitting on rs alloys which are et19 and as you state et35 needed spacers therefore the lower the et (on the same width wheel ) the further out it will be.

I didn't realise cortina offset was so low, just assumed it'd be the same as other fords.
That means its only gone from an 18 to a 15 and I'll stop worrying.

ET 38 is closer to the car than ET 19
Spring rate is not noticeably affected with this amount of offset change.
Plus ET or just ET means the hub face is further out than the wheel centre line.
Minus ET or -ET means the wheel base is wider and that the hub face is behind the wheel centre line.
