Today i tried fittin my shiny re-conditioned front calipers onto the hubs, and they fitted fine, but to my disappointment it looks like they'll
only take wee brakes! Tried the rear disks on the front to see if they wud fit but they are way too big wat can i do? my calipers look like
hellfires, so is the mounting bit wrong?
Cheers
As far as I know non Sierra front discs are 240mm standard or 260mm if fitted with ABS or 4x4. You can use a caliper mounting plate to space it out
more to allow a Cossie disc to fit. Dax do them, also some talk a while ago on forum about having some cut.
Don't get too into "Top Trumps" on the brakes, standard Sierra disc are fine in a car of this weight.
The disc's and calipers need to be mating components. We made a simlar mistake as you may have read on the website... the 4x4 and XR4i had
different offsets and diameters.
We had calipers from an XR4i and disc's from a 4x4. We changed the disc's to suit.
I would echo ZETEC's comments about overkill, but we wanted them to look the business too. No offence!
Cheers lads but with the space available it doesnt even look like we cud fit 240mm disks. will hav another look and maybe check out dax
on Dax there, its £90 for 2 cosworth disks, adaptors and bolts. Is tht resonable?
Seems reasonable yes...
Sory for the slight hijack, i dont know what size wheels sierras run but i have 14 inch wheeld for mine and am looking to convert drum to Disk, will a
standard sierra rear disk setup fit in inside the 14 inch wheels? (xr3i dogleg wheels)
Cheers
Yes, my XR4x4 has 14" wheels and rear discs, they fit no problem, but won't go inside Ford 13" wheels though.
Not sure what xr3i wheels are like but sierra 4x4 rear discs fit inside the sierra alloys - pretty sure they're 14" not 15". They look
like this:
Yep, they will fit
Adam
Our's was a 4x4 with 14" wheels, so another one for the "YES" vote
Yep - my donor was 2.9 GLS 4x4 with rear discs and 14" rims
