Alloy Tina Hubs - Cracked
Pdlewis - 29/5/12 at 07:27 AM

Just thought Id share my shock, Got the car out yesterday to sort it out for its MOT its been off the road for a year and a half so Im embarked on a comprehensive check every thing was going well just needed a small clutch adjustment and last thin i jacked it up to check there was no play in the wheels, there wasnt but as i was doing that on the black alloy hub i saw a flack of silver thats a bit odd

On closer inspection on both of my alloy hubs have cracked in 4 places straight across the place when the stud goes through the hub I cant believe it, the car has only done about 2k since the SVA the annoying thing is I cant for the life of me find where i bought them from!! i have a receipt for everything it appears apart from these

Best get some new ones are the rally design ones ok?

Not good let us know where they came from. I really don't trust Aluminium alloy parts where they have high repeated loading; unless they have been tested and designed properly. Our stuff is so one off that steel automatically gives you a higher fatigue resistances Aluminium alloys will not and requires much more thoughtfull and expensive design and testing.

Difficult to spot fatigue cracks as well, so not ideal on mission critical parts!

Cheers
