Rebuilding brake calipers
tomgregory2000 - 18/6/12 at 08:37 PM

Evening everybody

With my defender project coming on (very slowly) I'm in the position to rebuild the brake calipers,
I've had them bead blasted and re zinc coated.
I have stainless steel pistons for them as well, 12 of them :-)

Now my question for the the people who have rebuilt calipers,
Putting in the seals I guess I coat them in brake fluid?
Now fitting the pistons do I give the piston a coat of brake fluid to aid insertion or red rubber grease?

Brake fluid on anything with hydraulic contact.

And split the calipers, trying to fit while both halves are bolted together is very hard indeed, you will not get the sealing rings on the dust coats in squarely enough and they will bend and be destroyed.
