My mk2 escort steering column has play at the steering wheel end, and at the bottom of the crush tube end,
any one know a source of new bearings/bushs ?

Other options are to lose the outer column and just suspend the inner in rose joints on brackets.

I have the same issue. After making various 'slip in' plastic bushes on the lathe, none of which work very well, I am fast coming to the conclusion that getting rid of the outer column and making some brackets up to take suitable new bearings is the way to go

I then got 'up-grade'itus' and started thinking that as I am playing with the steering column what about getting a new removable boss with built in electrical connections so I can do away with the curly cable I currently have from the wheel to the dashboard....then I looked at the price of electrical quick release bosses

If you find a source of the escort bushes I would be interested to know.

I also made a sleeve for the top bush, its a piece of a fosters beer can, wrapped round the inner column and held tight with a tie wrap
It does work, but not really the way i want to go!

me too, though there might have been some cheaper options for the bos?

how much were the ones you found?

Lifeline do a 'formula' boss with 8 pin electrical connection for around £280 or if you want the bigger 'touring' boss you are looking at £400!

I have recently seen that OMP do a boss that 'has the facility to accommodate wiring' so I assume a certain size/ style of connector can be fitted but I have not yet seen the cost of these extra parts. The OMP boss itself is around £190 so its hardly 'cheap' by my standards

I have a spare Mk2 escort column hidden away in my garage if its any use ? I'm 99% certain the bearings are good , but would need to check .
