Narrowing a Toyota Live Axle - Anyone Done It?
BigDawgV8 - 9/3/13 at 09:58 PM

Hi All,

Need a little advice.

I have a Toyota Celica axle that needs narrowing.

A long shot I know but has anyone narrowed one of these? Is it even possible?

Might have to look at fitting another axle (cheaper option). Need a wheel to wheel width of 50 inches or so.

Thanks for looking!

It is regularly done for drag racing but not cheap the outer axle is cut and the extra cut out and welded back together.

The axle shaft is then shortened and a new spline is cut on the axle shaft. The next problem is the differential is not centred.

Erm.. isn't the Celica axle a surprisingly Heavy/ klunky thing?
As in why would onechoose ..it.., let alone spend large to alter it to fit ?

Depending on where you're measuring it, but iirc 50" sounds close to the width of a Ford 105e (Anglia) axle. That's if you can find any..

Thanks all,

I've had the axle for years. It's currently in a Morris Pick-up but it just too wide.
Nice strong axle can handle 300-350 bhp no problem.

Cost of narrowing etc. is just too much to justify so I will have to source another.

Jag, Sierra or Ford live are all options, just have to get the tape measure out!

Thanks!
