Removing steering column
Sierra - 13/7/13 at 11:31 PM

I've got some work to do to the dashboard but need to remove the steering column first but I can't seem to take it off. I've removed the steering wheel and the large centre bolt on the column but it still won't come off

Probably just stuck tight and will need a hub-puller.

put the centre bolt back in a few threads then get a rubber mallet and give it a few taps. oir get in the car put the wheel back on and pull like hell. again put the nolt back on so you dont get a broken nose.

Do you need to remove the steering wheel to remove the column. I would disconnect the column wiring at the multi plugs if fitted, If it is a Sierra column disconnect the column lower link (one 10mm headed bolt) Remove the 2 upper column support bracket (nuts and bolts perhaps) Ease column out from car . Probably 10 minutes work.

If you def' need the wheel hub off, put the wheel back on and try pulling and shaking. Do it with the centre bolt in but loose so you don't hit yourself in the face with the wheel when it comes off. If that doesn't work, try pulling while an assistant strikes the bolt head with a drift and hammer; This time mind the hammer doesn't hit you on the backstroke.
