I just found out that I have a 7.5" diff....
Is it much heavier than a 7" sierra diff?
It is heavier but I have never weighed them back to back.
However I would guess at 3 or 4 KG difference.

IIRC the freelander diff is a 3.21 ratio and is LSD. any ideas how much it weighs and what power it can take, anyone?
saw one go on ebay recently for over 200 squids.

Get one from We$tfield with a Quaife LSD fitted. A bargain at £1259 for a 3.2:1 or £1459 for a 4.1:1
IIRC no LSD in a Freelander diff as standard, that is why Westfield put the Quaife bits inside for...
A friend knows one of the designers at Westfield who was responsible for engineering the Freelander diff into the Westy. He said it was not as simple
as taking the diff off a Freelander and fitting it, they had to do something internally, which was not divulged.
Except for the cost it seems a good idea.

My 7.5" diff.= 24 kg +/- 1kg.
This is without LSD and push in drive shafts.
Can a 7" diff handle 400hp and slicks?
Can a 7.5" handle 400hp and slicks?
I know it will depend on torque but I just need a rough estimate
the freelander diff is 16kg without lsd and about a kg more with the quiafe internals (i think i havent got mine here to weigh)
the breathe supposedly needs modding but im not sure about that as there are people around running stock diffs fine, the westfield thing could be to
preserve their markup. i got my one with a quaife atb in it brand new for £500. for non lsds the stock diff is £200-300 but go for a 2001 or later as
the earlier ones are weaker.
