hi I have a 3.38 ratio sierra rear diff, the oil seals was leaking so I have fitted some new 1's but when I removed the old I noticed that
theres a lot of scoring where the seals go. so I used some sealer before I put the new 1's back in and still leaks what are my options?
cheers
just double checked its not actualy leaking from the oil seals, but between the castle looking nut the drive shafts goes through and the diff housing. whats are they called? and do they have seals?
There are rubber O rings between the castle nut and the body of the diff
Jacko
If you remove the castle nut it will upset the diff setup and play in the cogs

so if it upsets the diff, do I have to go and get it set back up? or will it be ok for a little while if I just fix the leak and put it back
together?
cheers

Cheers so I definitely can't just fix the leak and just put it back in?? Will it completely destroy it.
Will do if you run the oil low!
I'm on the look out for a leaky 3.38 to modify my diff ;-)
my diff had a thread lock type selent at the spline/nut to stop the oil seeping past
it was all ford orignal and un touched on dissambly
