Hi All
Excuse me if this is a stupid question, or has been discussed before :
Is there any clear advantage to using one or the other of the 2 common spring diameters when choosing coilovers (to be ordered to suit a custom
design)?
From what I see:
2.25"
Springs more commonly available second hand (in some areas), as most race cars seem to use them.
1.9"
Coilovers slightly cheaper
Smaller diameter (may fit better)
Springs would be stiffer for the same wire diameter.
What am I missing, if anything?
Regards

Fred,
I would imagine it depends alot on the wishbone design you have as wider coil-overs will need a wider hole to pass through

You might find that the 2.25" ones are a bit of a squeeze between the tubes of the front top wishbones - but I have no experience, so don't
rely on this statement! Depends on where you put your top brackets, I guess (mine are no the side of the chassis, rather than underneath).
Apart from that, either will do just fine - use what you can get - the open and closed lengths are far more important than diameter.
