How to identify steering column for sw boss?
The Knobs - 26/7/14 at 07:26 PM

I have a live axle Birkin S3 with a Mountney steering wheel fitted. I want to get a new boss to fit the new bolt pattern steering wheels but don't have a clue what column is fitted to the car. Does anyone know how to determine what boss I need to buy? Do I need to measure diameter of column and amount of splines. or what? I suppose I could make an adaptor plate but would rather get a new boss.

I'd say the easiest way is show us a picture or two.

does the mountney boss have a part number on it?

if so you could look it up via:

which links to http://www.mountneyltd.com/media/file/MN_TRAD_BOSS_APPLILIST2011.xls

I will have to take the boss off and have a look, and pictures on here seem to be a nightmare to post

Yeah, I never got my head around that, so just save them to my photobucket account and copy/paste the IMG link into the post.

Whipped of wheel and turns out the boss is 6 bolt 74mm pcd with an adaptor plate to the Mountney pcd. Just a matter of machining the plate down and drill and tap 6 x 70mm pcd, job done, better than sourcing in new boss anyway. Just need a 330mm suede flat wheel now.

I maybe able to help you there. I'll need to measure it tomorrow and I'll take some pictures.

Regards Dan.
