Steering column downlink material

Hi Everyone!

I am currenty trying to work out a steering downlink for my MX5 westy build...

I have a Mazda UJ attached to a length of 15.10mm bar for the upper part and a ford UJ attached to a 14.90mm bar for the lower.

I can get 15mm ID 2.5mm wall CDS tube to joint the 2 together, is 14.90 too small to fit inside the 15mm ID tube?

if so am I better off getting a length of solid bar drilled out and getting the 2 other links turned down to the same size? If so, what is the correct spec of bar to get? - obviously it will need to be able to be welded.

Thanks

Shaun

I used the top part of the MX5 column.

I chopped off the splined end, drilled and taped a thread then threaded a 14mm Ford style extension and screwed and tig welded it together.

I sleeved and plug welded 3/4" CDS tube on mine with a fish mouth on the ends to extend the welds.
