The short length of rubber brake hose between my reservoir and brake pipes appears to be sweating. There are no obvious holes in the hose. Has anyone else expereinced this? Have I fiited the wrong type of hose?

Brake fluid is quite evil stuff, and will try and dissolve any form of plastic, rubber, etc. It doesn't do paint much good either.

If what you bought wasn't described as brake hose (or, at least, brake fluid resistant) then I suggest that you change it ASAP.

if it's the brake fluid that's sweating out, it will also be drawing moisture in and you'll need to renew the hoses and fluid - it's incredibly hydoscopic.

What is this pipe made from? I had the same problem and discussed it with our Materials Expert at work.

He told me that some rubbers have large molecules - larger than the brake fluid molecules. This allows the brake fluid to seep through the material and appear as beads (like sweat) on the outside of the pipe.

This is a problem with Silicone rubbers in particular.
