I have a sierra upper steering column but do not want the igniton barrel as I have push button start. Is it possible to remove this with out ruining the column.

cheers

Simon

If you have the ign key the barrel can be removed easilly.

Insert key and turn one click, underneath the barrel there is small spring loaded button(very small)I have often used a biro to press the spring in but a small screwdriver will do the job.
Once key is in right possition and spring pushed in the barrel should just pull out.

as bobs says then carefully remove left over case with a hacksaw then clean up with file / sandpaper.

Did mine like this and it's OK. Also carefully removed the steering lock mechanism as it fouled on my steering wheel boss (never locked properly either).

Personally I'd leave the key & barrel. Firstly the barrel gives you a working steering lock. Secondly it would possibly confuse someone who had designs (improper removal type) on your motor, who says that you actually have to connect electrics to it (unless it's a anti theft alarm ie turn the key too far and it goes off?).

Hope this helps/gives you ideas.

Enjoy. 62 Days and counting.
