hi,

just bought some second hand wheels with tyres (yokohoma ao21) tyre date is 0703, no cracking on tyres etc, are they safe to use, whats the general consensus's.

Thanks

Andy

It partially depends on how they have been stored, but they will have hardened, possibly a lot.
The 8 year old pirellis on my MX5 are causing some excitement at the moment, plenty of tread, little grip in the wet though.....
Will be ordering a new set of boots next week.
You could give them a try, and I think there is some spray on stuff to soften old tyres??

Worth a go with tyre softener before you bin them.

I would just try them carefully and see how they handle .Ao 21s are normally very soft and wear out quite quickly.

consensus:

old tyre = less grip = in wet conditions eventually even dangerous

give them a try, drive carefully and hopefully you havent paid too much (you should have paid for the wheels and get the tyres free of charge)
