Powerlite Caliper Pads

What's the best pad for Wilwood Powerlite calipers for mainly road use with an occasional track day. Must be squeal free and grip well from cold, a good firm pedal would be nice too. Thanks

If you can get performance friction pf01 then I'd say that's a good bet. But very expensive!
Mintex, ferodo and hawk should also do a pad which may be good enough and a lot cheaper.

I've found Mintex 1144's to be good.

I've not really had major squeeling issues. They've done it a bit but a good heat cycle has got rid of it.

I have been running mintex on track and road. They seem to be fine on the road when working from cold. They certainly come on when hot and in my eyes are astonishing. The confidence in my car stopping is unreal on track. I can sale past anything else.

I've just come to the end of a set of 1144s. Have replaced with 1155s as I fancied a change, will see how those go.

1144s worked pretty well though, when new the braking was excellent as bi22le says, although when they got a bit more worn down they seemed less impressive.

Depends a bit on the weight of your car. 1144's are excellent if it's fairly light, if it weighs a bit though and you've got a few ponies you can smoke them when you start pushing on a bit. The ferodo ds2500 work very well, don't squeal or eat into the disc's and work very well after one press to take the chill off them.

I've never come across a car yet with the braking power my last radical had! Pf01 and the big hi spec race calipers were truly stunning.

Yeah, I've found the DS2500 very good on my boxster.

I've never seen anything other than fantastic comments about the PF01 pads.... but the price of them!

I have fitted the ds2500 to the powerlite , not tested yet, but a mate had them in a 328 on standard caliper and they were very impressive at croft

You would probable get a better feel from DS3000 pads.

That was what I intended to imply... but being pedantic, strictly speaking that'd be in the middle of the straight 'cos you've got to stop it again by the end.

Has anybody tried the various compounds of Poly-Matrix pads? Other than the "smart-pad" which are poo.

All the Wilwood ones I've tried where pretty pants...DS2500/DS3000, 1144 or 1155 Mintex, EBC pads or Hawk/Performance Friction all work to a greater or less extend. Pays your money and takes your chances. I've been very happy with Hawk DTC30 for the last few years.

As for pedantry....it would not be either the end or the middle where maximum speed is reached as deceleration takes less distance than acceleration unless you are in a very odd vehicle. Max speed will be just before the braking point...!

I've tried the Polymatrix Q and E pads, i thought they were crap, even just for road use.

like jeff i also use the hawk DTC30, were a definite improvement over the 1144's i used to use.

I used EBC Redstuff pads in mine. Very happy with them after all the squealing business on the minted ones.

Thats interesting to hear as your the second person (jeffw) with essentially the same chassis saying the DTC pads are an improvement.

I have found little issues with the minted but I am still green compared to many on here. They do create a lot of brake dust though. My front wheels are completely black after a day.
