Machine splines or cut & tube to shorted drive shaft

I'm converting to a sierra LSD, challenge I have is that existing drive shafts are tripoide and the diff needs lobro.

Unlike locosts my rear track is slightly narrower due to the de-dion tubes and uses shortened shafts, options:
1. cut end off diff tripoide, cut a lobro shaft in half, sleeve and weld (existing set up with non-lsd diff & tripoide ends)
2. cut end off diff tripoide, have splines machined and then fit lobro end piece.

I prefer the idea of option 2 from a weight and balance perspective, the difficulty is that the hub end of the driveshaft will still be attached as it isn't possible to remove without destroying the metal cans that are no longer available.

Any recommendations on who could do this? prefer local to Bristol, but willing to ship.

Does it need heat treating? can this be done with hub end of drive shaft attached?

Any concerns?

To shortern one of mine I cut and sleeved it, lasted for a couple of years before failing the sleeve twisted I did not weld the stubs, second time around I stuck the ends in a lathe, drilled the centres and lined up with a fat cotter pin, welded the shafts together then sleeved and it's been fine.

From memory the splined end of the shaft is thicker so cutting splines may not be an option, you will need to get new ones made up or cut and shut.
