What have I got wrong? Driveshafts or Diff?
Doctor Derek Doctors - 3/9/15 at 08:12 PM

I'm using a Sierra rear drive line in my current project but something's not mating up.

I definitely want to use drum brake rear bearing carriers.

So I bought what I believe is a push fit diff, its certainly a 7" 3.92 open diff.

I also got a set of drum brake push fit driveshafts on eBay which were delivered today.

When I went to push them into the diff tonight they are too small. So I checked and the diff has 26 internal splines and the shafts have 23 splines.

The diff has the following on its ID tab:
3EG4006 JD
A 392 5A23

I though there were only two types of diff fitting, push and bolt.

So what have I got wrong here?

I'll try to upload dome pics tomorrow.

I'm pretty sure that some , possibly the 1600 Sierra drive shafts are thinner than the 2lt push in shafts

Yep, the 1.6 driveshafts are smaller than the 1.8 ones..

Youve just been unlucky..

And too add the diffs and driveshafts where in all sorts of rwd models at the time..

Only sure way of a match up is to get them off the same car!

Sell them properly.

Reduced diameter light weight versions
