Evening all!

I was just wondering if any of you knowledgable chaps might know where I can get some THIN M12 washers? The standard thin grade (1.4 to 1.8mm apparently) are too thick to fit between my suspension bushes and the frame bracket.

Rather than pull the bracket in, I want to use a washer as a shim. This will also allow me to have a fine adjustment on the suspension geometry.

I guess I could do with 1mm and 0.5mm washers, to fit an M12 bolt/set screw.

May be a bit tedious, but if you have no luck, how about using a linnisher to thin down a fat washer.

You will need gloves cos it'll get very hot, very quickly!!!

A local sheet metal crowd could stamp them from varying thicknesses of stock to give you a selection.
Other than that, if you have access to a lathe, you could part off what you need from a suitable hollow bar. Tedious, but if it's worth doing etc...

can't you just cut them out of shim stock, which comes in variety of thicknesses and materials. You would probably want stainless steel. This thin guage you could probably cut with snips.

or have a load made out of nylon? got a friend with a lathe? or local machine shop, would take em minutes to knock you a bagfull up out of a small length of nlyon, drill down the middle and part em off at loads a different thickness's.

Take a few of your normal washers to your local machine shop, and get them to stick them on the magnetic chuck on their little manual surface grinder, then you can make them all the same thickness and whatever thickness you want.

Genius! Why is it that the most obvious solutions that are staring you in the face, are the most hard to think of!

We've got a surface grinder at work, and I'm almost certain it has a magnetic chuck/baseplate thingy!

Just don't try to take too much off at once and put the shop foreman's eye out with a flying washer!!

I've just found an online source of shim washers:

they are listing 12mm id shim washers from about £2.50 per 100 depending on thickness. It seems that the minimum order quantity is 500 on the 0.5mm ones though. So if anyone needs any 12mm id shim washers, give me a shout!

Well I'm now the proud of owner of around 500 12mm ID 18mm OD 0.5mm thick shim washers!

IF anyone needs a handful, give me a shout. I'm sure I will have several spare when I have finished with them at the end of next week!
