F27 rear disc brake upgrade
Plunky - 26/11/16 at 04:30 PM

Hi,
Looking to upgrade the rear drums to Calipers/discs on my F27.
I already have a set of Sierra calipers.
Can anyone assist me in identifying which kit to buy please?
There seem to be a lot on eBay, just unclear what I actually require. A bolt on kit would be preferred.
Thanks,
Liam

Have a look on eBay for either caprisport or oldphonebloke, he sells brackets for the English axle and Sierra calipers. Also oldfordautos do them. I managed to use the Sierra discs and calipers on my Anglia with an English axle, this is a pretty standard conversion. But beware the escort, Capri and Anglia are slightly different.

Hello Is this for an IRS F27?

It has a live rear axle, English or atlas (if there is any difference)

The IRS F27 is Sierra based I had some info for you if yours was IRS.

English diff and atlas are different. Iirc English diff loads from the front, atlas has a removable rear plate.

Worth asking why you are wanting rear discs, on a light car drums are usually plenty good enough and rear discs will over brake the rear making it a handful.

Hi i put willwood 4 pots on mine think they use fiesta discs would still do it again but have to say i had to gear the handbrake up to get it to mot standard and i now have very pretty rear brakes but a crap handbrake and no better braking on the rear than i had with drums. Have a look at rally design web site for reference Cheers Ali

By the way those sierra calipers will be heavier than the drum brake set up.

I'm totally aware of the performance implication, if I'm honest it's mainly for asthetics...
I'm not aware of it having a negative effect on performance though. With the correct use of a brake bias valve I should be able to get a decent brake performance

Thanks for that bit of info. I believe I have an Atlas axle then as there is a plate on the rear
