Hi All, can anybody tell me if I DO need to fit the brake deceleration valve (off donor sierra)which regulates rear brake pressure in accordance with
weight transfer.I know "sylva " do use this in their sierra based Striker and kitcar mag.August2001 stated you must use this-has anybody?
If so where has it been plumbed and must it be mounted at any particular angle?
I have also seen advertised a master cylinder set up already for 60/40 front/rear bias -would this do away for need of valve.
Father-in law has a ginetta which locks up rear end and spins car under extreme braking
as rear is so light-would like to avoid this scenario in my MK,
MIke.
Acording to some you dont need one but you are better off putting one in now than later if you need one.
I used a FIAT PANDA one can be made adjustable with a bolt, you will see how if you go that route.
any probs gis a shout.
I was told by MK that its not needed, but i'm keeping my ears open on this issue as some people are fitting them.
Hi guys
My car runs bog stock mk2 escort brakes (no servo) and sailed through the test so it must depend which system you are using. You can make a bias valve
for about a fiver. mail me off list if you want the file or look on Dave Andrews Robin Hood website. Don't laugh he's a very clever bloke!
Chris (northern git)
Thanks Guys, brake bias bar seems nice idea -will check out web site and get back to you if I decide to go another route!
Mike.
I looked at the "Dave Andrews Robin Hood website" and like the idea of the mini option. Where in a Mini is it located (save me hunting about). Is it
beside the master cylinder or under the car at the backend? I need to get the heater and wiper mechanism anyway so this will just add to my scrapyard
fun.
Ta
hi ewan.
its on the rear sub frame.
I have been told its not been fitted since the dark ages, and also it was fitted mid eighties so take your choice.
I suspect you will have probs getting one from a scrappy and i woulndt be happy with a 20 year old one.

do a ready made one with adjustment - costs about 35 quid tho. It also has non metric fittings.
The sierra one is inertia driven and needs to be mounted at the correct angle - so get it right. Changinf the angle is effectively adjustment. It has
metric fittings of course.
I have the mini one.
If you use the sierra one it wont pass sva rolling road test cos there is no inertia - they apparently test it in the compound by a rolling stop
test.

We used an Aldan valve, cost 45+vat from Demon Tweeks. Turns out it's identical to the Mini version - can make for a tenner!
Bugger.
Still we needeed it PDQ and Demon offered overnight delivery.
Marcus
PS is the Panda one similar? Just got rid of one!
Bugger!
Marcus
Hi Guys,
I have Cortina uprights and Escort drums. Have been considering the Sierra deceleration valve and had discounted the mini valve for SVA reasons. How
are you getting around the "ADJUSTABILITY" part of the test?
TIA, Ian.
Re Mini valve. The tester at Derby SVA actually advised us on that route and even said just fit it and we'll adjust it for you when you get here!
Decent bloke.
As far as adjustability is concerned he said as long as it's under the bonnet, and not adjustable from the cockpit, it's ok.
If you're unsure, drill the adjuster and lockwire it to the chassis.
Marcus
This is where some SVA testers differ,at the Yeading SVA they want the lock nut welded so as no adjustment can be made.
This means a re-test to show it has been done once they are set on the 1st test.
The brakes are also tested again to see if you have adjusted inbetween tests.
Can anyone confirm part no. for mini regulator valve,as described above, is Grk 6002-and presumably non.metric fitts,
Thanks Mike.
Also a fiesta regulator has recently been used, and passed SVA.
I've robbed this bit of info from the Feb issue of the LOCOST CAR CLUB newsletter.
Fit a Fiat Uno one dead easy to make adjustable, ask merlin and no holes to drill!
Conrodkid, thats Uno NOT Panda or are they the same??
Hi all -
Please don't use that ****ing Sierra 'G'-valve. I used to work on their design & development. We had to make them very flow concious, in order to get
sufficient response. Under rapid brake applications, line pressure can rise before the inertia-sensing ball closes off the valve.
The later Fiesta screw-in type valve is recommnded, if you believe a valve is really necessary (with Cortina M16 fronts, 8" Ford rear drums).

I'm running discs at the back so i'm looking at options.
For all i know discs might not make any difference, the valve conrod used from a FIAT is very simple and easy to fit so it looks like i'll go that way.

I'm using 9" rear drums, so maybe my setup is marginal.
Which type of Fiesta has the limiting valve?
Ta!
Re brake valve for Mike should read UNO £17.55 from my suplier e me if you want one.
