Offset Musroom instert plans

Hi everyone,

Does anyone have a drawing with accurate dimensions of the offset mushroom insert please?

Or just the dimensions?

Or just the offset value, as I will be able do figure out the other dimensions.

Thank you.

The only limit to the offset will be being able to get a socket on the joint.

So the wall thickes of the mushroom plus some clearance plus the radius of the socket needed will give you your offset

Vouch,

I bought my mushroom inserts online. Can't remember from where offhand.
But I did note the dimensions, I measured the offset at 7.35mm, but the 2 varied a bit.
I can email my sketch if you need it, and could look to find where I bought it from if you need me to.
Good luck
John

A point well made!

My off-set mushroom inserts came from MK when I built my MK Indy. Getting a the socket to fit inside to tighten the Nyloc nut meant using an angle grinder to "modify" the socket. Got it done, but it was a PITA.

It's also worth noting that the off-set in the mushroom insert doesn't actually alter the caster angle since it doesn't alter the inner or outer pivot points of the front upper wishbones. If you want to alter that you need to be looking at moving the chassis brackets forwards/backwards or having Rose joint type fittings on the inner ends of the front upper wishbones and varying thickness spacers to allow the whishbone to move forwards/backwards. More complex yes, but it will achieve adjustable caster angle (and steering self-centering).

Thank you very much for your replies.

I actually do not need to buy/make/fit mushroom inserts for my car, as it has been done a long time ago. I just needed the offset measurement for another reason, and I could not measure it on my car as they are fitted, and I would not get an accurate result.

Thanks anyway for the advices and all the useful explanations.

@ johnhsmith : thank you very much for the offset measurement, and your proposal for a sketch, but someone on the Haynes Forum sent me the CAD drawings of his inserts, so I have exactle what I needed. So don't bother making and sending a sketch, but many thanks.

Happy new year to you all
