Trailing arms - rod end size?
pmc_3 - 26/6/20 at 05:27 PM

I'm looking at making up some trailing arms using turnbuckles and rod ends for a live axle car. I'm going to get some UNF ones as they seem a fair bit cheaper as more widely used in motorsport. Will 1/2" rod ends be sufficient? I've been looking at these ones from McGill Motorsport https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/162130218416 Obviously getting LH and RH ones. It works out cheaper getting the bits from them on ebay than from the website.

Thanks in advance

You may want to do some reading first, especially by Procomp.

Basically, due to lack of any compliance in rod ends you will soon get a failure on a live axle. Probably the brackets on the chassis.

Can you get an end like a rod end but with a bush instead? That way I could keep the adjustability but have one end with a bush

After speaking with PROCOMP I've made rod end one end and bushed the other. Some adjustability with some compliance. Made in a jig so they're all the same length.

This is the sort of thing I was thinking, available in the US I wonder if somewhere in the UK makes them too.
