Hi, anyone know which calipers I can fit to Cortina uprights....apart from Cortina ones of course? Am I right in thinking that Cortina calipers are
M16s in which case I would need to know which other cars use M16s.
Cheers in advance!
Jon
Not all M16 are the same Ford used an odd ball pitch for the holes much wider tha used on for example Triumph Gt6s
Virtually any 70s Ford with RWD used M16s -- Escort 2 to Granada. --- some Grandads used a different caliper.
Many thanks that helps a lot.
Cheers
Jon
Austin princess calipers are a popular choice, they weigh only a fraction more than the M16s and are 4 pot. if you fit a spacer kit you can then fit
capri 2.8 vented discs. (It's what i have )
they do cost a bit though - expect to pay in the order of £100 for a refurbed pair on ebay - mine were £45 and I had to refurb myself , it cost me
about £60 to do that and then another £20 for the spacer kit

metro turbo calipers are meant to be copies of austin princess, they are ap as well but need the twin inlet pipe/circuit sorting out. otherwise
hispec, bremsport, racedla, outlaw and of course willwood are all bolt on 4pot ally replacements, though more expensive of course. stevem has used
princess calipers, but beware they are iron and are very heavy!

Urban myth Metro turbos units are designed for much smaller dia discs -- might fit if you did an awful lot of work with and hand file and die grinder.
Fair enough, though interstingly enough there was a 7 back at exter last year with them fitted...

I vaguely recall seeing an article on reusing volvo calipers (one of the dinkier volvo's).
Might have been on an Escort though, not 100% sure.
Yeah, here:

It is an escort, but it talks about the princess calipers too, so... might work on a cortina hub.
think you have to oval out the mounting holes a bit.

Some of the Volvo and Saab rear calipers from the models with drum handbrakes can be used on the front but they are small calipers. Volvo 740
front.calipers"may" be useable with vented discs

Triumph and Hunter calipers are not anything like Princess calipers, Princess calipers are 4 pot.
I am also pretty sure the bolt spacing is narrower than Ford used.
Sorry, my mistake, they're the same as the Princess callipers, they're the same as the ones fitted to the V8 MGBs.
Just ignore me while I mumble to myself.
