Help - TRE confusion
flak monkey - 23/2/05 at 11:47 AM

I have a MK2 escort steering rack (confirmed) with M14 threads on the track rods.

Ordered some TREs from MNR the other day, they arrived and they have the MK1 thread...ie 1/2"UNF.

Just got off the phone with MNR and very helpful as always. Just send them back etc. They said that the sierra and Mk2 escort TREs have the same thread (ie M14). So they can send me some sierra ends.

Are sierra and MK2 escort TRE's actually the same? If not whats different? And any differences going to cause any problems?

Hope thats not too confusing!

Cheers for any help,
David

Escort are shorter than Sierra track rod ends. You might not get enough toe in with Sierra ones on a Mk2 rack, depends on your wishbone design.

How much longer are the sierra TREs? I will be using rack extensions anyway, due to building a wide track car....dont know if that will allow enough adjustment.

I also understand the sierra ends are offset...but that shouldnt be a problem right?

Of course i could just get them, see if they are ok...if not sell them to someone else who needs sierra TRE's

Have you tried general motor factors, i've looked at the prices for maxi ball joints and escort TRE on locost sites, and i'm sure you can get them a lot cheaper at the factors.

Thats what i have decided to do as a matter of fact I am just about to send the TRE's back with a request for a refund. Hopefully shouldnt be a prob

They were only £5/each anyway! Cant be much cheaper than that from a motor factors...

Cheers for the help guys!
