Can someone confirm that to be compliant the front cycle wing must sit forward of the front wheel rim as I am seeing alot of pics. where this is not the case-these vehicles presumably have not done sva or I am mislead-i.e pics of new viento luego.Want to fit wings but need to be right 1st time, thanks mike.

Mike,

These are the details, as far as I understand them:

Take a big set square (builder's framing square) and put it on the floor. Bring the vertical face up against the front of the wheel rim. The front of the mudguard must be ahead of this line.

...but this is based on second-hand reports from other people on this list.

I couldn't find anything in the SVA manual, so I guess it comes under the catch-all bits, so open to interpretation (and/or abuse).

David you are right there,it must also cover the tyre and rim when veiwed from above.

It's in the SVA manual exterior Projections section 2v - wheels:

It refers to nothing other than tyres are allowed to project beyond the vehicle body plan form (other than in the case of tyres, wheel discs and central wheel securing nuts).

(section dated MAY 99, manual current at start of 2002)

I know cos I fell foul of it - see post re SVA & mudguards on MK Indy section.

Take particular care that no part of the rim is visible from above, particularly at the corner radius.

Cheers,

Colin
