Just went today to get myself a mk2 escort Steering rack from Motaparts.
They do an up to 1990 and a 1990 onwards .
Does anyone know which one I should go for and even what the difference is??
Many thanks.
Think you might want one that's a little older than that, unfortunately.
No such thing as a 1990 Mk2 Escort.
The Mk2 escort went out of production around 1980
It did seem odd when he told me. Is there any particular Mk2 one to get though.
as said above , mk2s had finished well before the 90's
buying an exchange mk2v rack should set you back around £20

I have no rack to exchange, except a sierra one, anyone know price I should pay for a non exchange unit?
I got mine for £35 off ebay but it needed a clean up etc.
You can buy them outright from a few places for about £80 (i think burtons were selling them) you get a surcharge if you dont have a rack to exchange.
Several places have stopped selling them all together unless you have one to exchange.
Keep an eye out on ebay, there are usually several on there. Just make sures its a MK2 rack
I paid £15 for an exchange rack 2 weeks ago. I swapped a rack I was given by the local garage. They never even looked at it, it was off a Jap car I think. Surcharge is around £45 there so outright would be £60ish
Likewise
I exchanged a Mk111 rack for a Mk 11

Newlly built (on an old housing but no exchange) quickracks are £109.50 from rally design, and you don't want a std ratio rack in a 7 unless you never steer on the throttle, and that's half the fun of these cars so basically, you need a quickrack anyway and it's cheaper to just buy one than to get an old one, get the kit, rebuild and put it all together.................I know, I hate paying for stuff but anything else just didn't make sense!
