How do you remove the sierra rear prop section from the centre bearing? It looks like its not going to be possible but I have another rear section
without the centre bearing of splines fitted to it.
Any help would be great as I'd like to go out in it tomorrow and cant unless I get the prop and diff changed over
thanks
Carnut.
there is a bolt in the middle of the joint, undoo that and a medium hammer will make it come apart
I cant see a bolt, you mean behind the uj?
Ive just looked again, I cant see a bolt anywhere in that area.
the bolt is in the middle of the centre bearing
I still see no bolt. I have attached a photo below. The top propshaft is the one that I want to remove the splined secion from as I want to fit it
to the bottom shaft.
If you could mark on this pic where the bolt is, that would be great.
thanks

bolts not there!,it should have held the 2 parts together, the U/J,s are staked in,really need a specialist to remove U/J ,replace prop end and re-stake joint
Is the top shaft 2 piece and what is it off of and is the bottom shaft the rear of a Sierra prop from which the said bolt has already been removed?
Just noticed the bottom one has circlips so the joint is removable but it doesn't look like the top one. Cut it and get the welder out.

as pete says(dont like to be seen to agree with him too much) cut n shut or get it done pro as a flailing prop dosnt do your legs any good
The top shaft is from a 2L saphire, the bottom is from a sierra cosworth.
I think im going to have to cut them both and get them welded together. Or I may just put the current prop back in the car for now and do without a
cush drive.
Any other sugestions are welcome.
thanks
Carnut
Is the bottom type of fittment the same as normal for a sierra?
Someone must know what the prop of an xr4x4 or even a 1.6L looks like.
i have never seen a prop like the bottom one fitted to a sierra. then again, ive never seen one without the front donut either! so thats
both.
ive broken and xr4x4, a 1600 pinto, a 2.3 diesel and am currently breaking a 1.8. not got as far as the prop on that one yet though!
oh. I think ill just put my standard prop back in then.
the one with a front U/J is the earlier type. was replaced by the donut on 4 cylinder models.
I think Conrod means the bolt between the front and rear section in the middle of the centre u.j. The bottom prop looks like the rear already removed
but the circlip joints don't look like original Ford. It could have been fixed or be an aftermarket item. It's been mig/arc welded so
it's not original as it would have been friction welded same as the top one

Do MK weld prop shafts?
